Our qualifications

Our civil engineering programmes are published below. Further subject areas are added as approval for each qualification is confirmed, rather than listed in advance.

Subject areas

  • Civil engineering — Level 4 and Level 5, published below.
  • Building services [VERIFY]
  • Quantity surveying and construction management [VERIFY]
  • Business and management [VERIFY]
  • Education and training [VERIFY]

TQUK centre recognition gives us access to over 300 regulated qualifications, plus endorsed courses and Functional Skills. Approval to deliver any particular qualification is applied for separately.

We publish a subject area only once that approval is in place, so this list grows slowly and deliberately.

CLIENT TO PROVIDE: confirmed list of subject areas Further Learning is approved to deliver.

Who these courses are for

Entry requirements for each qualification are confirmed individually. The profiles below describe who the programmes are designed around.

Engineering professionals

People already working in civil engineering, construction or building services who want a formal qualification alongside the experience they have.

Career entrants and changers

People moving into engineering-related work who need structured knowledge and a recognised qualification rather than a degree route.

Employers and teams

Employers qualifying technical staff, where training has to fit around site work and shift patterns rather than an academic timetable.

We also work with a small number of approved partner centres overseas, so the same qualification is available to learners outside the UK. How that works.

Qualifications and professional pathways

A vocational qualification builds structured knowledge and gives you evidence of it. That is separate from eligibility for a regulated role.

Completing a qualification with us may support your professional development, and may be relevant to learners pursuing further study or professional pathways in engineering. It does not by itself confer professional registration, statutory status, a licence, or membership of a professional body.

Eligibility for any professional or statutory role remains subject to the requirements of the relevant employer, professional body or regulatory authority.

How studying works

  • Delivery format [VERIFY]
  • Tutor support arrangements [VERIFY]
  • Learning materials provided [VERIFY]
  • Expected study commitment [VERIFY]
  • Assessment methods [VERIFY]

How assessment works here

What you are actually buying is an assessment decision that will stand up. This is how ours are made.

  • Assessors hold a recognised assessing qualification and current occupational competence. [VERIFY]
  • Every assessor and every unit is sampled by an internal quality assurer.
  • TQUK externally quality assures the centre to an agreed schedule.
  • You deal with the centre that holds the recognition, not an agent.
  • Assessment criteria are published by the awarding organisation, not set by us.

A qualification is only as useful as the people who recognise it. Ours sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework, which means an employer can look up what the level means without knowing anything about us.

That also means we cannot quietly lower a standard to get someone through. The criteria are published, the sampling is external, and the certificate is claimed from the awarding organisation rather than printed here.

Learners outside the country can take the same qualification through an approved partner centre. See where to study.

Courses

Qualifications awarded by Training Qualifications UK and delivered by Further Learning (UK) Ltd. Civil engineering is published first; further subject areas follow as approval is confirmed.

Development note, remove before launch. Centre recognition is not the same as approval to deliver a particular qualification. Every item marked [VERIFY] must be confirmed against TQUK documentation before this page is published.

What the levels mean

Qualification levels come from the Regulated Qualifications Framework, which is how qualifications in England are compared with each other.

Level 4 sits at roughly the standard of the first year of a degree or a higher apprenticeship. Level 5 sits at roughly the standard of a foundation degree or the second year of a degree. The level describes the demand of the study, not how long it takes.

Our two programmes are designed to sit one above the other. Progression from Level 4 to Level 5 is [VERIFY].

Which level suits you

  • New to formal civil engineering study, with some site or technical experience, start at Level 4.
  • Already hold a Level 4 qualification in a related subject, Level 5 may be the right entry point.
  • Unsure, send us a short summary of your education and work history and we will advise.

Common questions

Do I need an engineering degree to apply?

Entry requirements for each qualification are set by the awarding organisation and confirmed by the centre. [VERIFY]

Can I study online?

Delivery arrangements are confirmed per qualification. [VERIFY]

I am outside the UK. Where do I apply?

If there is an approved partner centre in your country, you apply through that centre. In Hong Kong that is our partner institute. See where to study.

Who awards the qualification?

Training Qualifications UK, an awarding organisation recognised by Ofqual under reference RN 5355 and part of the AQA group. Further Learning (UK) Ltd is the recognised centre that delivers and assesses it.

Qualifications and recognition

Who awards our qualifications, what our centre recognition covers, and how you can check it.

Further Learning and TQUK

Further Learning (UK) Ltd is a training centre. Training Qualifications UK is an awarding organisation. The two roles are different and it is worth being clear about which is which.

TQUK writes and awards the qualification, sets the assessment criteria and issues the certificate. We deliver the teaching, carry out the assessment against those criteria, and quality assure the decisions our assessors make. TQUK externally quality assures us.

Further Learning is not an awarding organisation and does not issue its own regulated qualifications.

What our recognition covers

Further Learning (UK) Ltd achieved TQUK Centre Recognition on 11 May 2026, holding centre number 54835534951.

Centre recognition authorises us to apply to deliver TQUK qualifications and programmes. It does not automatically approve us for every qualification TQUK offers. Approval for each individual qualification is applied for separately, and we publish a qualification only once that approval is in place.

Delivery through partner centres

Some of our learners study with an approved partner centre in their own country rather than directly with us. The partner provides local teaching and learner support. It does not hold TQUK centre recognition of its own and does not award the qualification.

Under this arrangement Further Learning (UK) Ltd remains the recognised centre and retains responsibility for assessor approval, internal quality assurance, certification claims and appeals. Our centre is externally quality assured by TQUK for all delivery, wherever it takes place.

The formal basis of each partner arrangement and its approval by TQUK is documented and can be provided on request. [VERIFY] See where to study.

The Regulated Qualifications Framework

The RQF is how regulated qualifications in England are placed on a common scale, from Entry Level up to Level 8. The level tells you how demanding the study is. The size, measured in credits or guided learning hours, tells you how much of it there is.

Because the framework is national, an employer can read a level and know roughly what it means without knowing the provider.

How to verify what we publish

  • Check the awarding organisation on the Ofqual Register of Regulated Qualifications.
  • Ask us for the qualification number of any programme you are considering.
  • Ask us to confirm our approval status for that specific qualification.
  • Contact TQUK directly using the details on their published certificate.

Quality assurance

How assessment decisions at this centre are made and checked.

  • Assessors hold a recognised assessing qualification and current occupational competence.
  • Internal quality assurance samples decisions across every assessor and every unit.
  • External quality assurance is carried out by TQUK to an agreed schedule.
  • Learner evidence and certification claims are retained in line with TQUK policy.
  • Learners can appeal an assessment decision under our published appeals procedure.

About Further Learning

We deliver regulated qualifications to people who are already working, and who need the paperwork to catch up with what they can do.

Our purpose

Further Learning (UK) Ltd exists to make formal qualifications reachable for people already working in engineering and construction, or moving into it, who cannot step away for a full-time degree. Our first programmes are in civil engineering, with further professional subjects following.

We focus on a small number of qualifications and deliver them properly, rather than listing a broad catalogue we cannot support.

CLIENT TO PROVIDE: year established, background of the founders, number of staff, description of the training operation.

Our approach to learning

Assessment is against published criteria, not against a curve. Learners know from the start what they are being asked to demonstrate, and assessors explain what is missing when something falls short.

Who we support

  • Civil engineering and construction professionals seeking a formal qualification.
  • Technicians developing towards a more senior technical role.
  • Career changers entering engineering-related work.
  • Learners without a conventional engineering degree, where entry requirements permit.
  • Employers qualifying technical staff around live site work.
  • Learners overseas, through an approved partner centre.

Learner support

  • Tutor support arrangements [VERIFY]
  • Feedback turnaround on assessments [VERIFY]
  • Reasonable adjustments process CLIENT TO PROVIDE

Where to study

Most of our learners study with us directly. A smaller number study through an approved partner centre overseas, and take the same qualification.

How partner delivery works

Further Learning (UK) Ltd holds the TQUK centre recognition. A partner centre provides local teaching, local learner support and a local point of contact, working under our centre approval rather than holding its own.

That distinction matters. Responsibility for assessment decisions, internal quality assurance and the certification claim stays with Further Learning, and our centre is externally quality assured by TQUK for all delivery, including delivery through partners.

The formal basis of each partner arrangement, and its approval by TQUK, is confirmed per partner. [VERIFY]

Studying with Further Learning or one of our partner centres does not involve a UK student visa and does not provide any right to enter, remain or work in the United Kingdom. We do not sponsor visas.

Studying in Hong Kong

Learners in Hong Kong enrol and study locally, and receive the same TQUK qualification as learners in the United Kingdom.

Teaching, timetabling, local enrolment and day-to-day learner support are handled by our partner institute in Hong Kong. CLIENT TO PROVIDE: partner name, address and contact details as they should appear publicly.

Assessment is carried out against the criteria published by TQUK, and every assessment decision is quality assured by Further Learning before certification is claimed. [VERIFY]

Fees, intake dates and application procedure for Hong Kong learners are set locally by the partner centre.

What Further Learning is responsible for

  • Holding the TQUK centre recognition under which the qualification is delivered.
  • Approving assessors and internal quality assurers. [VERIFY]
  • Internal quality assurance of assessment decisions.
  • Claiming certification from TQUK.
  • Handling appeals against assessment decisions.

What to check before applying

Particularly if you intend to use the qualification outside the United Kingdom.

  • Entry requirements for the qualification [VERIFY]
  • English language requirements [VERIFY]
  • Assessment arrangements and submission deadlines [VERIFY]
  • Which centre you enrol with, and who to contact
  • Whether the qualification is accepted by the body you need it for in your own country

The last point is the one we cannot answer for you. A TQUK qualification is regulated in England and is understood there. Whether a regulator, licensing body or employer in another territory accepts it towards a particular role or registration is that body's decision.

Before you enrol on the strength of a professional goal, ask the body that will make that decision, in writing, what it accepts. We would rather you did that first than afterwards.

Not sure which centre to apply to?

Tell us where you are based and we will point you to the right one.
